This is probably due to its location at the first Cataract of the Nile, which provided a natural boundary between Egypt and Nubia. As an island, it was also easily defensible. In fact, the ancient town located in the southern part of the island was also a fortress through much of it's history. At one time, there was a bridge from the mainland to the island.

My traditional sailboat (felucca) in the manner used by the pharaoh. For centuries it has a triangular sail. The boat, which is covered with a comfortable wooden mattress, has a bathroom and a kitchen. My felucca (Sandalia) has a length of 11 m, a width of 3.5 m, a height of 10 m, and a mast of 21 m. The felucca consists of four parts, the first part being a place for the sailor, the second part being the galley opposite the bathroom, and the last post for the helm, the boat covered with wood
