Extraordinary East Austin Retreat with Sauna and Cold Plunge

Discover a private sanctuary in this classic east Austin artist's retreat. Wake up to peace and tranquility amid wood finishes in a space with a soaring custom cathedral ceiling, an upper level loft, a deck walkout, and a cozy outdoor swing bench. Energize for the day with a dip in the cold plunge and unravel for the night in the infrared sauna. We have an enhanced cleaning policy to ensure guest safety and peace of mind in the midst of uncertain times that includes: A top notch HEPA filter, spraying or wiping disinfectant on all surfaces and washing laundry with hot water and bleach. This is an eclectic and imaginative one bedroom cottage sanctuary with a front porch swing for watching east Austin mosey on by. Joyous comfort is to be had in the main bedroom with custom cathedral ceiling and tempurpedic bed. The bathroom features a walk in shower with custom tile and a clawfoot tub for all of your bathing dreams. There is an additional sleeping loft should you have a friend or two who would like to accompany you. City of Austin Operating License # 096563 This lot features a front house (all yours) and a back house that we stay at when we are in Austin. Please make yourself at home on the front and side porches but we ask that you give some privacy to the back yard immediately surrounding the back house. Thank you! I travel often but regularly stay in the back house on the property. I love getting to know guests and if our paths cross I look forward to talking with you. Central East Austin is a diverse and dynamic neighborhood that is just a few minutes from downtown and yet still quiet. In addition to offering of some of Austin's best restaurants and music venues, it also has important history to explore. In the last century, highway 35 was a tool of segregation, with east (of 35) Austin providing a rich community for African Americans. See how this history lives on through a plethora of old and new businesses is this burgeoning neighborhood! There is a parking spot that you are welcome to use directly in front of the house and there is also plenty of street parking with no permitting or street cleaning concerns. The closest B-Cycle station is a 15 minute walk away at Victory Grill on 11th St. Many of the 6th St restaurants and bars are a 10 minute walk as well. If you would prefer not to walk, there are a selection of ride share services such as RideAustin (our favorite), Lyft, or Uber. The street has two names, Hamilton Ave and Richard Overton Ave. Depending on your map source you may see either one pop up. Richard Overton is the oldest living American and American World War II veteran at 112 years of age. He lives down the block where be bought a house after the war ended.

Charming Chestnut Carriage House in East Austin

Everything’s within reach at this contemporary carriage house featuring vibrant wood floors, trendy furnishings, and heaps of natural light. Brew coffee in a snug kitchen with marble surfaces and have a seat on the balcony overlooking the yard. This carriage house is great for a long term stay or a staycation! Due to the coronavirus, we’re taking extra care to disinfect frequently touched surfaces between reservations. The carriage house has been professionally cleaned using CDC recommended guidelines. The builders of this space spared no expense on the details and finishes of this property. It is exquisite! The private entrance makes it feel like your own slice of Austin. Speaking of slices: check out East Side Pies for pizza nearby and The Wheel, Whislers, or Kitty Cohen’s for a cocktail! The Mueller development is 2 miles away where the H-E-B grocery store is located if you’re looking to cook your own meals in the kitchen. Guest access is through the right-side fence gate while facing the main house on property from the street. Access codes will be provided upon booking. The carriage house includes a balcony patio that guests may use. We’re available when you need us and you can also have all the privacy you like. We’ll gladly give you suggestions of things to see and do in Austin. The home is set in the East Austin neighborhood of Chestnut and a short drive away from vibrant eateries, BBQ joints, brewpubs, and parks. The University of Texas is nearby and Downtown’s iconic music venues and nightlife are minutes away by car. The MLK, Jr. Red Line light rail station is a short 8min walk from the unit and can be used to get into downtown or to AustinFC soccer games! Uber or Lyft are recommended to get around Austin. You can usually find one of the scooters 🛴 down the street near MLK Blvd as well. If you have a personal vehicle or rental car you may use street parking in front of the main home. The East 12th ADU has some cool features like vaulted ceilings and tall windows that flood the space with light. Those sleek white oak cabinets in the kitchen? They're not just stylish but also set a welcoming tone when you step into the living area. This even got creative with the foundation, giving it a chic black and white terrazzo look. And don’t get me started on the bathrooms! The primary bath showcases a unique tile from Clay Imports, while the secondary bath has a fun vibe with its blue vanity.

When I travel, I want a well-maintained home that doesn't feel cookie-cutter, with well-considered comfort details. Once my own home, the Big Shiny takes heart in those values. Tucked at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac facing a nature reserve, it's a light-filled, art-filled retreat 7 minutes to downtown. Warm wood details, high-end mattresses, and a sprawling back deck made for dining and lounging. Step out the front door onto the Boggy Creek greenbelt and walk to Austin's best tacos and coffee.
