Only a great sense of humor is requested for class - no prior art or clay experience needed. Students are encouraged to be as wild & creative as they wish. All the silky, smooth porcelain clay is wedged & centered prior to class. Everybody creates at their own pottery wheel in my beautiful, sunny, art filled gallery & studio. There is a lot of inspiration in my space. I commence with a brief demo, where students create with me as I show basic & easy wheel throwing techniques. After the demo, I assist each student at their own pottery wheel. All are encouraged to create whatever they like, be it bowls, mugs, vases, platters, plates or any unusual shaped sculpture. I love for my students to experiment. This may include tossing pots in the air to catch & "squish," as done in Japan, as well as "karate chopping" their pots. This makes for a one-of-a-kind masterpiece! Students may create as many pieces as they like. Students are welcome to hand-build and sculpt as well. Students may select their favorite glaze colors, from my palette. All my glazes are fully food safe. I custom pack & ship all over the world, for a separate fee. Students may listen to their favorite music to add to their fun & relaxing experience. People may sign up for one or more hours. I look forward to welcoming you into my studio for a one of a kind experience you shall remember forever!
To great acclaim, I have taught wheel throwing & sculpture on TV & private classes to all ages & levels for 25 years - young kids to celebrities. I was awarded the 2019 Santa Fe, NM ArtSMART Artist of the Year. At Skidmore College; Sorbonne, Paris; & Harvard University, Cambridge, MA I studied art history, languages & studio art. I collaborate with world-renowned artists: Braldt Bralds; Gigi Mills; Alexandra Edlridge & Bette Ridgeway. I've traveled in 23 countries, broadening my artistic horizons; learning ancient South Korean & Japanese porcelain techniques as a UNESCO artist, to metal casting in Thailand. My colorful gallery & school, near the historic Santa Fe Plaza is where I exhibit my award winning glazed, smoke-fired & gold leafed porcelain works of art. I adore teaching people & corporations the world over.
European chocolates, smoked almonds, raisins and fresh fruit are provided during class.
Whatever beverages you would like to enjoy during class will be offered. Please inform us in advance of any special requests.
