An amazing wilderness hike in the middle of the city! The front of Table Mountain is certainly impressive, but the back table holds an abundance of fantastic paths, nooks and secret passages. Join me on a fulfilling hike over the lesser traveled side of the mountain, up in between the cliffs and gullies that make up the 12 Apostles range that defines the Cape peninsula, then across the pristine mountain's top, peering down a kilometer over both sides into the city, before ending at the cable car for a majestic (and effortless!) return to the city. Spectacular! (Cable car ticket not included.)
I have spent 30 years hiking, climbing and running on the Table Mountain range. I love this amazing playground! As a mountain fanatic I have climbed most of the big walls in South Africa and opened new rock routes in the wild Cape mountains. I have been up the highest mountains in Africa and Europe, climbed and hiked in most of the 50 countries I have visited, climbed grade 8a and made good time up iconic big routes like The Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite. I have worked as a stunt rigger on Hollywood movies, photographed for National Geographic and National Search and Rescue exercises, and been the climbing cameraman on an Alex Honnold movie. Come hang out on the awesome Hoerikwaggo, the "Mountain In The Sea"!
This trip is a hike, with no rock climbing involved. However, I can provide extra safety equipment if the chosen route…
Each side of the mountain has a unique character: The Camps Bay side is less traveled, a little more wild, with the 12 Apostles range stretching out to meet the Atlantic ocean coastline. The mountain top is an unspoilt wilderness, alive with verdant fynbos and animal and bird life. The front is many people's favourite: with the city behind us we follow twists and scrambles until up between the huge cliffs that guard the mountain top.
