The experience we are offering is to teach guests how to make a traditional Capetonian Fish dish. Known as Snoek and Patat. It is a dish made with Snoek (a local line fish), sweet potato and a Rooster Brood (a bread bun baked on a grill or open flame). Participants will learn to make the meal from scratch. Grilling the fish and potatoes on a hot flame, learning to check textures so that the fish is not over cooked and then get to enjoy the meal while we talk about the history of fishing in Cape Town
I am a founder of Ikamva: Youth and Entrepreneurship Development Center. For the last 5 years we have been training young unemployed women and men to become qualified assistant chefs and enter into the labour market. These young chefs have gone on to work at Graded 4 and 5 star hotels and cruise ships.
Participants will be provided with the raw ingredients for cooking. 1 portion of Snoek, 1 sweet potato, Sweet garlic butter…
The Experience is hosted at a Community Organisation in Eerste River. Eerste River is a community that is situated between Kuilsriver and Somerset West. A 15 minutes away from the Stellenbosch Wine route. We will be using the kitchen that is used to train our assistant chef students.
