This is a very special workshop exploring the use of glass on glass to produce a circular mosaic design that will reflect and project light in beautiful and delightful ways. You will be provided with all the materials you need, including a fine selection of coloured glass pieces and a circular clear glass substrate that has been framed in lead for you, ready to hang at home later. We will learn how to cut and shape glass safely and make test pieces before starting on the main work. No pressure to finish on the day, as a goody bag will be provided for you to complete your piece at home if required. We all work at different speeds! Suitable for any level of experience, including absolute beginners.
I'm a professional self-employed mosaic artist with 30 years experience of delivering workshops and teaching skills in a variety of community settings including my own studio in central Manchester. In addition to my fine art degree, I have trained in a variety of specific mosaic techniques with international experts and I also restore architectural mosaics in Victorian buildings. My commissioned work includes public art mosaics in parks, town centres and community settings.
Tea, coffee and herbal teas will be available throughout the day.
Oil-filled glass cutters, grozing pliers, cutting boards, Leponitt glass cutters, safety glasses, bench grinder and all other…
The whole day is spent in my mosaic studio at Cakebread Workshop. Cakebread is a large work space where a group of artists and makers have their studios.
Warm 'work' clothing
Although this workshop is ideal for people with some existing experience of working with glass or of making mosaics, this is not at all essential. Beginners will quickly get the hang of all the techniques involved and plenty of help and instruction throughout the session.
