For 3 weekends in October, 204 artists from Joshua Tree and the surrounding area are hosting art studio visits. Their work include paintings, sculpture, photography, fiber art, drawings, prints, film/video, and more. It is all there, for everyone to see or purchase. But 204 artists? In an area that comprises 7 towns and spans 50 miles? Over dirt roads? With spotty wifi? (Some art studio directions specifically state, "Do Not Use GPS", because if you do, you will get lost!) So what is an art adventurer to do? Your best bet is to secure the services of art curator and host Christy Addis, who will hand-pick a curated selection of the best art to be seen, and will manage all of the driving and all of the hassle. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the amazing desert views in between seeing art at it most intimate and engaging: in the studios where it is made, with the artists who make it. Guests will meet Christy in the morning in Joshua Tree for introductions and coffee, with a whole day of art viewing ahead. There will lunch and a midday respite, with continued art adventuring in the afternoon. The art-packed day will conclude in time to view the breathtaking desert sunset. I can plan separate itineraries for Saturdays and for Sundays, so that weekenders can opt for a 2-day experience, with 3 weekends to choose from.
I am an independent art curator, artists' consultant, and art collection manager, and have previously taught art and design at universities on both the East and West coasts and at the high school level. I am Program Manager for the Fine Arts Film Festival, which is sponsored by The Venice Institute of Contemporary Art. For over a decade, all of my professional and leisure time has revolved around art, design, and film. I have lived in New York City and Los Angeles, and was deeply immersed in the creative communities there. I now live in Joshua Tree, CA, a small community with a large arts scene. I see the quality of the art here with the fresh eyes of a recent transplant, and it is every bit as vibrant and intense as the desert scenery.
A lunch stop will be included that will cater to a variety of diets, and light snacks will be available throughout the day.
Cool water is the best way to stay hydrated in the desert
Comfortable car transportation with the host will be provided
Each place visited is a private artist's studio, that is open to the public for 3 weekends in October. This noteworthy event is a bit overwhelming to try and navigate on one's own, and the last thing an art-lover wants to do is spend the day getting lost (easy to do) and missing out. The select studios visited for this Experience have been specially researched and chosen by the host as examples of the best art in the Joshua Tree area.
最多可供6位年滿18歲的旅人參加。 If you have children between 13 and 18 who are used to a prolonged cultural experience, contact the host to see about an age waiver.
A hat, sunscreen, a camera, and comfortable shoes are a good idea.
Both experienced art-lovers and novices to the art world will find this Experience truly engaging. If you have teens under 18 who are used to an all-day cultural event, please contact me to discuss a possible age waiver. Sorry, no pets.
