As you arrive down our private driveway and park you will be greeted and given a history of the 2018 eruption thru my eyes. A short walk through replanted areas that were covered with volcanic tephra leads to a giant view of fissure 8 and fissure 24. Experience 35+ varieties of trees and plants that will produce food. Plenty of time for sharing video links and taking photos. We will show the process of replanting every plant and sharing what it takes to live on the lava. Guest will be able to experience the lava farm up close and personal.
Aloha, My name is Stacy Welch. I was born and raised on Oahu but spent 35 years in California raising my kids, horses and dogs. I have a ranching & farming background mixed with the love of the outdoors. I returned to the big island to be self supporting and plant. I bought a tiny acre in Leilani Estates and built my tiny home only to experience one of the largest eruption in two hundred years from Kīlauea. I was evacuated from my home for 8 months. My tiny home survived by 160 feet. Having gone thru this amazing event and coping with survival, I have found healing is by replanting and sharing our story.
Depending on season guest may taste crops.
Leilani Estates is a private neighborhood as our personal guest to our home you will get first hand story from the moment we evacuated to today’s replanting of our lava covered land. We will be sharing our photos, videos and our farming mission here next to fissure 8 and fissure 24. Open photo opportunities and a farm tour will give you the closest look as life is regenerated on the lava. Our home is featured on Nova PBS as well as many others.
