Casablanca Discovery Walk: Looking to go back in time? Imagine the era of Portuguese and Spanish sailors. Walk through the Old City, a smaller, but just-as-authentic version of the Fez and Marrakesh medinas, with their narrow alleyways and bustling shopping streets. It doesn’t take long to make it through the medina, before finally arriving at the Portuguese garrison overlooking the port (and the newly-opened Marina Mall). There, you can enjoy authentic Moroccan food and breakfast at the famous La Sqala restaurant. Check out Rick’s Café, a remake of the famous establishment of the same name featured in the famous 1942 Casablanca movie with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. You are now in the 1940s. The movie was filmed in Hollywood, but an American expat built a real one in the 90s (thanks, Kathy), great pianist too! Just a short walk away, tour the Great Mosque, an architectural masterpiece. Two-thirds of it was built on water! So folks, we'll be starting our Discovery Walk at City Hall Place (Place Med V) before walking past both Clock Towers and the Grand Theater, through the medina which we'll explore, and ending our Walk on the oceanfront, by the Port. You can then easily get to Casablanca's amazing Waterfront (Corniche) and beaches from there, for more great adventures!
