We offer 2 different times to make the most of the morning. If you choose the earlier hike we will start 30 minutes before the sunrise to ensure we have ample time to hike up and secure a spot on top of the first pillbox. We will watch the sunrise in its entirety (providing there is good visibility). There will be ample time for photos and giving Buster lots of treats during this time. After the sunrise, we will continue to the second pillbox, again you will be given ample time for photos and exploring this perfectly placed piece of history. If you choose the later option, we will take things a bit slower as we have nowhere to be. We will stop at three photo ops and I will direct you with posing to ensure you get that dream shot. Both times offer unique views and the cutest pup who can’t wait to meet you!
Aloha! My name is Allie, and though I am listed as the host the real host is a 25 pound love bug named Buster. He is a 1 year old rescue who is very excited to take all his new friends on his favorite hike! What better way to raise money for the Hawaiian humane society than by leading a tour with a rescue dog from there.
I will provide dog treats for you to give to Buster and make you his new best friend.
I can provide water but by request only.
In my spare time I am a hobbyist photographer and will include complimentary photos of your time with us. I will deliver a…
We will be hiking the Kaiwa Ridge trail (aka Lanikai pillbox hike for the two WWII era pillboxes found therein) and gain 649 ft in elevation from start to the highest point where we will conclude our hike. Throughout our time together we will see the Nā Mokulua (two islands in Hawaiian), on a clear day look out to Molokai and Maui, Waimanalo Bay, Makapuu lighthouse, Koolau mountain range, Mid Pacific country club and of course the pillboxes.
This is a unique experience because not only are you taking time to see Hawaii’s natural beauty but you’re helping it’s local community prosper. A significant portion of the money we make goes back directly to the Hawaii humane society to help other homeless animals on Oahu.
