You will be welcomed with a selection of herbal teas, allowing you for time to browse Oliveology’s Borough Market shop and sample some of the produce in our store. We will then gather around the olive oil section. Nafsika will guide you into tasting various types of olive oils and olives. There will be plenty of freshly baked sourdough bread and generous servings of olives to accompany your tasting. You will learn how to experience the tasting notes for each of the olive oils, its terroir, the importance of provenance and what makes for a good olive oil. We will talk about food pairings and recipe ideas on using olive oil in baking, breakfasts, and as a beauty product. Moreover, Nafsika will talk about the importance of olive oil in the Greek culture and in the wider Mediterranean region, using stories from Greek mythology, history and her own anthropological insights. We will end the tasting by selecting our favourite olive oil!
I am the founder of Oliveology. We supply organic, vegetarian & vegan foods and speciality ingredients from small artisan producers in Greece since 2009. We only work with farmers that still use natural methods, preserve traditional farming techniques. We retail from our shop in Borough Market Mondays-Saturdays. For this tasting Marianna invites Nafsika. Nafsika has a PhD in the Anthropology of Food from SOAS, University of London. Her expertise is on Greek cuisine, traditional foods and markets, cultural identity and memory. Nafsika is also a chef and consultant for artisan food companies, restaurants and food organisations in Athens, London and Berlin, creating unique culinary experiences. She is a food blogger at www.NafsikaCooks.com where she indulges her passion for both cooking and writing.
We will provide everything needed for the olive oil tasting: a wide selection of olive oils to taste, freshly baked sourdough…
The tasting will take place at Oliveology’s shop at Borough Market, a vibrant food market in the heart of London.
Just bring lots of questions and good spirits! The tasting takes place at our shop space, so please dress warmly.
There are plenty of other interesting artisan food stalls to visit in the market. Also plenty of restaurants and bars to get some lunch or drinks after the tasting. We can share or favourites with you! Also Tate Modern is about 15 minutes walk from the market.
