I will show you how to make your own sterling silver ring or bangle from scratch. We will start by working out a design and the size needed first in copper wire or sheet, and how to create textures using a rolling mill, hammers or punches. I will show you how to correctly use a jeweller's piercing saw to cut the metal. After annealing the metal using a blow torch, you'll form the ring or bangle, using a mallet to shape it to the mandrel. I will demonstrate how to solder the join, and then you'll get a go! You will make the final piece in silver to your own personal design. And then it gets a final finish burnished, matt or shiny... and you get to put it on and it's yours to keep...or give to someone special as a thoughtful gift.
I am a studio jeweller (@papermetal) working from my home workshop designing and making my own collections of contemporary silver jewellery for Galleries, independent retail outlets, NotOnTheHIghStreet and to commission for private clients. I trained 30 years ago under a master jeweller at college, and later completed a degree. I was highly commended in the National Platinum Awards and more recently was the winner of The National Trust Artisan/Maker Call-Out. My work has been shown at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and currently in several National Trust Properties. I have been a tutor at Art & Design colleges for 10 years, and now only teach Jewellery Evening classes. I love what I do and love to share the alchemy that is designing and working with precious metals, and it's a joy to see the delight making your own piece from scratch can bring
