Kimekomi literally means “to tuck into a groove”. It was developed in the 18th century in Japan as a doll-making technique, where a pattern is drawn and then cut onto a surface, such as a soft wood or smooth foam. Fabric is then placed over the pattern and tucked into the cuts. You'll start by choosing your fabrics to adorn your Kimekomi baubles, from a plethora of Christmas and Winter-themed fabrics, then measure & cut your sections to shape. Sometimes people find this step as the 'difficult' part in the process - it's so hard to decide, with all the choice available, which 4 prints or patterns to use! :) You'll then proceed to mark your sections on the bauble (polystyrene ball) & score them, then one by one attach the fabric and tuck its edges inside the cuts, to reveal a smooth 3D-effect surface - don't worry, I'll be there to guide you and share my tips&tricks to perfection throughout. We'll finish off your creations with matching - or clashing! :) - decorative string and a little wooden charm to adorn your festive masterpieces. Depending on the time and speed, you may be able to make a start on a second one, should you finish your first bauble early. If you prefer to take your time to perfect your techique, that's alright too, you'll be able to take home with you the supplies for the second bauble and practise your newly learned skill in your own time
Hi there! I'm Andreea and I'm a crafter who loves to share her passion for handcrafting with others, through running crafts workshops, crafts fundraising events or gifting personalised presents. When I'm not working as a Software Product Owner, I'm busying myself with various crafts projects, either for the charity organisations I volunteer with, learning new techniques or making something special for a loved one. My motto is 'if I don't know how to make something, I'll learn it to teaching standards' and so have I done for the past 8 years, learning & teaching a variety of crafts like floristry, paper & textile crafts, props making, millinery, perfume/lipstick/candle making & more. I love teaching all things crafts, I'm friendly and easy-going and will endeavour to provide you with a fun & relaxing learning experience.
