First, we will begin the evening with a private swing dance lesson that will take 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on how serious the guests would like to get. After this lesson, with a few basic steps and some beginner moves under our belt, we will walk to Frenchman St., a famous few blocks in the Marigny neighborhood teeming with live music and nightlife. There, we will go to various venues (which venues we will go to depends on the night of the week since bands rotate through on a weekly basis) including the world famous Spotted Cat. Once we are at each venue, we can dance to the wonderful bands (or just watch if preferred) that are playing there! Not only will the guests be able to dance with their friends/ partner, but you will also be able to dance with the teacher for the duration of the experience! We love dancing with everyone, and are skilled at making anyone feel comfortable and have fun on the dance floor.
I co-own and operate a swing dance entertainment business in New Orleans. I have over 10 years of experience dancing and over 6 years experience teaching various styles of vernacular jazz and blues dance. I go out dancing almost every night for my own enjoyment, and I am one of the most knowledgable people in the city in regards to where and when there are opportunities to swing or blues dance. I know the bands, I know the doormen, I know the bartenders and I know ALL of the dancers. I would love to engage tourists in this wonderful and unique sub-culture!
Rhythmic Arts Center: A centrally located dance studio near all the action. Frenchman St.: A world-famous few blocks known for its abundance of world-class music.
The beginner lesson is designed to get you comfortable and having fun on the dance floor, so there is no dance experience required. We will not pressure you to dance at venues if you don't want to!
