You will help us free fly our falcons on the cliffs of La Jolla at the Torrey Pines Gliderport, a National Historical Place and beloved landmark. In our Falconry Experience, offered through Total Raptor Experience San Diego, you'll learn how to call and release one of our trained falcons using a falconry glove, and admire their aerial skills while they soar above the cliffs. You'll get an up-close and personal view of their mastery of flight as they perform simulated hunting behaviors, swooping, ground-skimming and diving at high speed after a moving target. At the same time we will discuss raptor flight styles and how they contribute to the diverse ecologies of different types of hawks and falcons. There will be plenty of time for questions and pictures with our birds. My hope is to send you home with a new, or perhaps renewed, love for these majestic predators and the environment.
The experience is ideal for special occasions and corporate team building. If you'd like to book a private group please feel free to contact us.
The experience lasts 1.5 hours and there is some standing involved, we can always provide a chair if necessary, just let us know in advance.

My name is Antonella, I am a biologist and paraglider pilot. With my husband Dave, who I met while flying, and our friend Terry we opened Total Raptor Experience, www.totalraptorexperience.com, a Falconry School. Together we offer falconry experiences and advocate for environment conservation. We love to share our love for raptors and for free-flight with our friends and our guests, and hope to get you involved as well.

We'll be at the Torrey Pines Gliderport, a beloved San Diego Landmark tucked between Black Beach, Torrey Pines State Reserve and the Salk Institute. It offers incredible views of the cliffs and the ocean and access to the beach. The area has free parking, is wheelchair accessible, and has a great off-the-grid cafe. On a good day you can see paragliders soar along the coast, spot dolphins go by and a number of soaring birds cruise the coastline.

We loved this experience! You get a lot of interaction and viewing time with the falcon, and the hosts are super knowledgeable. We learned a ton of interesting info and loved seeing the falcon doing his natural behaviors. Plus, the location was beautiful!

My teenage son and I both LOVED this! It was completely amazing to see these gorgeous birds land on our gloved hand. We got some great pictures thanks to our helpful hosts. We got to see raptor speed up close. All among the paraglider floating by. Great outing! And the teen said it was "super cool."

This was such a great experience to do with my kids. It was the perfect combination of cool animal experience, learning about the animals and their habits and demonstrating their hunting technique. I was worried that we would only get to hold the animals once, but everyone got to hold each animal many times. Well worth the time and money. So glad we did this.

Overall, this was a very pleasant experience. My group learned a lot about falcons and hawks. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable, the animals were lovely, and the location was absolutely gorgeous! There is quite a bit of standing though, so I'd recommend bringing a folding chair, hat & water/snacks.
