You will receive a warm highland welcome here on our Croft. This unique opportunity is for you to be a Crofter (farmer) for a day. Embedded within a crofting community you will learn about the history of crofting, traditions and meet local crofting folk. Daily routines start anytime between 7-8 am. Feeding animals - sheep, highland cows and donkeys. Grooming of donkeys and cows when appropriate. Breakfast Out to check stock on the hill ground - clean out donkeys, tidy shed. Maybe in to town to collect supplies. Check land water flow and be prepared to dig out water courses! Lunch - home made soup and fresh bread. After lunch: Fleece preparation, including skirting, washing, picking, carding, and spinning. Introduction to Knitting techniques and or crochet. Break time-mid afternoon - biscuits (cookies) and hot beverages. Out to feed the animals again and if appropriate bed down for the night. A day can end anytime between 4-8pm depending on work load. Evening meals are your responsibility - local restaurants are nearby NB Activities may be subject to change at very short notice, this depends on the needs of the animals. & If there are dates you would like and they are not currently open on the calendar, please get in touch, we would be delighted to hear from you.
I am a fully qualified tutor in traditional skills, which also includes spinning, knitting, crochet and all fleece preparation methods. I live on a Croft on the Isle of Skye and offer you the opportunity to be a crofter for a day or more. Here you will learn the basics of animal husbandry, how to maintain a working Croft and how to prepare produce for sale - including fleece work.
Light refreshments will be available all day-we do provide a continental breakfast and light lunches
You will be working on a traditional Croft Situated on the bank of Loch Greshornish, Isle of Skye. You will have the opportunity to see wildlife and work hands on with sheep, cows and donkeys.

Waterproofs, Wellington boots, walking/hiking boots, warm clothes including hats and gloves and a change of clothes in case you get wet
You need to be able to undertake physical work as and when required. Dress appropriately in warm clothing and waterproofs-the weather here can change quickly. Bring spare clothing just in case you get wet. Make sure you have appropriate Holiday Insurance cover
