You will be working in the artists studio, situated in a quiet and picturesque part of the region. We begin the process gently, making simple designs and trialing the materials. After you gain a little confidence, we progress to designing your own piece. Sometimes it can be structured, others prefer free form. The painting is simple and gentle. Playing with colours and textures. Once complete the students can rest, or play some more as your creation is steamed to complete the process. On most occasions your masterpiece can be taken with you, alternatively they are left in the studio as the fixing and finishing is all part of the package. Then your piece is thoughtfully shipped to a location of your desire.
I have worked as a textile creative for over 30 years. For the past 21 I have exclusively worked with silk, perfecting my skills in hand painting techniques. I have created both wearable pieces and exhibition work. My pieces have been found in exclusive gift stores and leading fine craft galleries. I originally trained as an art educator and still enjoy the sharing of skills with others, and seeing the joy in others as they discover new ways of working and letting go. I have always offered workshops as part of my artistic career and believe that in the sharing of this knowledge artists create more discerning buyers. Friendly and generous by nature I have experience with students from the age of 3 to 93. This is a gentle art, full of exciting color and possibilities, where everyone can succeed.
All silk painting, drawing, design equipment will be provided.
Although we are a few kilometers from the town of Cowaramup and Margaret River, you will pass the "Miller's Icecream" farm shop which is always worth a stop for iced delights, coffee and cake. Several wineries in the area too, if your up for a tipple, or cafes for lunch before or after your workshop.
You may like to bring some images or photos that inspire you. Many bring images from their recent explorations.
You may need to consider your clothing. We have aprons and gloves. Recommend closed footwear, sneekers are fine. Bring snacks perhaps, we have water and provide tea and coffee if needed. Please let me know if you have any accessibility issues so I can assist.
