You’ll get to meet our two very happy, tame, and curious goats - Cocoa and Houdini. First up, we’ll offer you a drink (cold or hot depending on season) and a light snack as we share with you how we came to be proud goat parents. We’ll source and cut down some seasonal foliage for the goats to enjoy as you first meet them. Approaching their area you’ll be made to feel very welcome by the goats as they greet you at the gate. We’ll share with you the important information about their diet and how them being a ruminant makes them unique. We’ve got some funny stores to share about Cocoa and Houdini ... all of which have helped us learn along the way! You’ll come away with a wealth of knowledge about goat care, goat fencing and anything else you want to know! You’ll have an opportunity to have some photos with the goats, who are always very keen to get involved! You’ll be welcomed to groom the goats and feed them their favourite treats as they eat from your hand. Depending on how comfortable you are with the goats, you'll have the option of getting them up on their hind legs - showing off their balance as they reach the tasty leaves up high! We will give you a tour of our small orchard, and if you strike the season right, you may be able to pick and take some fruit home with you. Send us a message if the times available don’t suit - we will see what we can arrange!
Our family moved out to the country to escape the busy city life five years ago. We purchased an acre of land and have made it our own, looking after the native trees and adding some of our own, growing fruit (including our own berry garden) and creating homes for our goats and chickens. Over the years we’ve learnt about what it takes to life on a lifestyle block and make the most out of what it as to offer. We’ve also learnt was doesn’t work too! We are avid chicken and goat parents and love to share our knowledge.
Gumboots (if you have nothing suitable) Food for the goats
Whatawhata is a small rural town outside of Hamilton in the Waikato. Down the road from our lifestyle block is a great family friendly cafe, a pub across the road, a berry farm, gas station and golf course. We are located in a convenient place if you are driving north or south between Auckland and the central region.
Covered shoes if you don’t want to wear shared gumboots
The area and the goats are quite clean, but depending on how close and personal you want to get don’t wear your Sunday best. Covered shoes are a must, we have gumboots available Children are welcome - if they are keen they can come into the area, or they can pet and feed the goats through the fence
