Once the sun has set, Amsterdam really comes alive with colour and light.
A city built around water, it is truly magnificent to photograph at night, offering all the specific aspects landscape photographers are after: a rich building history spanning medieval, renaissance, gothic and ultra-modern architecture, intimate lighting around the canals offering dreamy compositions and a beautiful contrast between light and dark, and also many reflections throughout the canal belt.
I have been photographing the city for years, and know the best compositions Amsterdam has to offer at night, as well as how to shoot them.
If you are interested in long exposure photography at night, and want to create some simply stunning compositions during your stay in Amsterdam, this is the right place to start.
We will discuss all aspects of photography, from creative to technical. It doesn't matter what your level is, the idea of the tour is to get some great photos of the city at night, and enjoy walking around Amsterdam's historic landmarks with a local, and a pro photographer.

My name is Eddie, and I am a professional photographer from the UK. I moved to Amsterdam in 2002, after a few years of traveling around the world. During my travels, I developed a real love for photography, especially landscape and low light photography in particular.
I work in Amsterdam as a freelance photographer, and spend much of my free time out in the city, scoping out new locations, or simply looking for a different perspective on a familiar scene.
I very much enjoy showing people the best spots in town, and sharing technical knowledge about the shoot, and also editing fundamentals. Whether you are a pro, or a beginner, you can get a lot out of the tour.

We meet at Central Station, and then head off into the Wallen (red light district) to shoot some of Amsterdam's most pristine architectural exhibits. From medieval to renaissance architecture, the red light is visually stunning at night, and offers some fantastic photo opportunities.
Moving on, we wander through the predominantly 17th century canal district, looking for reflection compositions, incorporating light streaks from the passing boats.

This was a great tour. Eddie is a great photographer and you can really feel his passion for photography and to give his guests a great experience. He knew great spots to take photos, following the light of the sunset and later the city lights. It felt more like going around Amsterdam with a friend to shoot and I booked another tour with him right away. Total recommendation.

Eddi came to the meeting point on time and was immediately sympathetic to me. He addressed our questions individually and explained the technical basics of photography on the basis of the motifs. Great way to experience amsterdam! Having pretty much no photography skills I wasn't sure if it would be for me but Eddie is super friendly and helpful, I learned about many new settings I never knew my camera had and by the end of the evening I was getting much higher quality photographs. Eddie added extra time to the tour as there were additional places he wanted to show us. He also followed up after the tour with camera recommendations and learning resource for beginners, as well as a lovely photo momento of the evening. If you're looking for something a bit different to your standard tour then this one is for you 😊

I had 2 days photo sessions with Eddie in Amsterdam. This was the best thing I have done in learning photography. I am 60 years old and was taking amateur photography for many years as a hobby, but Eddie taught me new techniques in photography which I didn’t know before. He taught me exposure, timings, and composition. The best part is the night photography, I was amazed to see my night photos, I didn’t believe that I was able to take such a wonderful photos in my camera. We had 3 sessions one day light photos in Amsterdam city, one Night time photos in Amsterdam city and one in Zaanse Schans , which is another wonderful experience of photographing windmills and beautiful little houses in that area. The distance is about 15 km from Amsterdam and Eddie took me in his car. At the end of each day Eddie taught me how to edit my photos in Lightroom. He have a complete course of photography, taking photos, using right equipment and editing the photos. Eddie did not do this in a commercial way, the way he did this absolutely due to interest in teaching photography. You are learning for rest of your life in taking excellent, professionals photography. I highly recommend Eddie if you are thinking serious photography. Thank you Eddie for the wonderful time you spent with me in teaching me to take excellent photography.

As a new photographer who has spent the past year teaching myself, Eddie was a breath of fresh air.
