Located near the world-famous Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, Taikendo is a cozy space,,,, just right for you to enjoy the musician's performance up close.
You can enjoy the intimate performances of a great local guitarist. Shohei Toyoda is an award winning guitarist, touring nationally as well as overseas.
After the show, we look forward to meet and greet with the guests.
September 22: Professional guitarist Shohei Toyoda

Shohei currently resides in Kyoto, Japan, working as an performing guitarist all over the country. He is currently plays his custom model Lichty Guitars, hand-made by Mr. Jay Lichty in Tryon, North Carolina
2013
-Won 3rd Place at the 2013 International Finger-style Championship at Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas
2012
-Won First Prize and Best Arrangement Award at Japan’s National Finger-Picking Guitar Contest
2011
– Won The Grand Champion of the “Home of the Legends” International Thumb-Picking Contest in Mulenburg, Kentucky

Musicians can not speak English, but I will explain in English.
It includes the admission fee for the concert and a drink. Additional drinks are required separately.

I have been supporting music activities and musicians for over 40 years.
I have run a store called TaikenDo near Fushimi-Inari Station three years ago.
I have regular concerts at this store.
There are also many great musicians in Japan. I would like to create an opportunity for foreigners to know Japanese musicians.
One of my missions is to have overseas people have a good time with great Japanese musicians focusing on acoustic guitar music. And I would like to have foreigners also perform at this concert. I will continue this activity.

The core of this experience is excellent, but being a new experience, there are still several elements that can be improved. I shared detailed feedback with the host that I think could turn this from a mid-range to a top-notch experience.
The acoustic guitarist was incredible - beautiful, skillful playing that was simultaneously engaging and rewarding. He played about 45 minutes, and I would have enjoyed even longer set that was exclusively him.
My husband, who plays guitar, was invited to "jam" with him, which he did briefly. It was fun and they sounded great, but this invitation could have made others feel put on the spot.
Wabi Sabi, the opening "pop-rock" act was energetic but a little too loud for such an intimate space. This felt like a better fit for a bar at night.
The host was welcoming and passionate about the music. It would have been nice to have more background and stories about the guitarist as well as learn a little about the host and his shop.
The shop location is conveniently nect to a train station and the most popular shrine in Kyoto. With some adjustments, I would recommend this as a short, unique experience to add onto your trip to the shrine.
