I'll take you on a canoe ride through a small, quiet village located just 7 minutes from Amsterdam Noord. We'll paddle near houses and areas filled with cows, sheep, and birds—it'll feel like you're back in the time of Rembrandt. Before heading back, we'll stop at an island and have a picnic with typical Dutch delicacies.
Other things to note
Bring a swimsuit or raincoat, depending on the weather. Spare clothes are a good idea in case something gets wet. The island can be wet and muddy, so wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty.

Majel Tromp is the founder of Wetlands Safari. Since 1995 Majel is organizing this canoe tours. She studied environmental science and travelled all over the world as tourguide, loves to show you the Dutch countryside what you only can visit by boat. Since 2020 starting of the canoe tours at Majel's cottage. So you really will meet the local.

We'll be in Waterland, an area near Amsterdam accessible only by boat. We'll be paddling through a village and a nature preserve. We'll picnic on an island, see cows and sheep when we paddle and small windmills—all while taking care to stay dry.

This was the top Airbnb experience during my Amsterdam stay. A great break from the city-museums-dining-cycling and a great outdoor adventure. An insightful and relaxing way to learn more from the expert about Dutch countryside, waterlands, local flora and fauna. Extra bonus for the tea at Majel's garden overseeing the canal and a picnic. Don't be afraid of the weather forecast, it's flakey but clears up most of the time

Such a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing yet absolutely fascinating day out, just a short distance from the bustling centre of Amsterdam. The nature reserve is a really unique and fascinating environment, and Majel is a superb guide to the wildlife, plants and the special interaction of land and water that creates this iconically Dutch environment. Canoeing is a fun, engaging and very relaxing way to enjoy it too. If you're spending a few days in Amsterdam, this is a highly-recommended tour for a nice contrast to all the excitement and stimulation of being in the city.
