In the early 20th century Russia was shaken by all kinds of strikes and revolutions. Finally, communists took over the huge country and Russia has set foot on the road of socialism.
A volley of cannon aboard the cruiser Aurora launched the assault of the Winter Palace. Vladimir Lenin was announced to be the first head of a new state called the USSR. During this tour we are going to find a hundred marks of those days and definitely visit a real soviet café.

We were shown around by Alex who is a lifelong St Petersburg resident and Post Grad history researcher ( I think I have that right? ). It was a fascinating experience and we learnt so much - in fact this day has sold me on Airbnb Experience - and so I hope all live up to this level. I would recommend to anyone visiting St Petersburg to make it a priority to do this when they are there. In fact it was one of my highlights of my trip to Russia ! We had again a tour with Alexander. And again we were impressed by his knowledge and passionate way of talking..., he knows not only about Second Word War, but about Russian Revolution too ( and Dostojevski, and Lenin and architecture ...) because of all his research in the archives.
and his visit with us at the soviet cafe was unforgettable.

I really appreciated Alexander's tour. He's incredibly knowledgable on his subject and offers many stories and anecdotes along the way. It was clear that he has a natural passion for history. His extensive knowledge and storytelling nature make this an excellent experience for both history buffs and those new to Russian history. I learned more than expected. The Soviet cafe was a real treat as well and very authentic. I couldn't have gone there on my own and cannot recommend it enough. You will love this tour. Thanks for everything Alexander!
