Sailing from Marina de Portimão to Praia da Rocha, depending on sea conditions to a desert beach or Praia dos Caneiros or Praia Grande in Ferragudo for swimming and Stand Up Paddle. You will learn the basics techniques to sail a boat and to work as a team with the same purpose. The boat has a kitchen, WC onboard and bed for 5.

Lovely afternoon out at sea
José's sailboat is not large, so our small group of three was just right.
Unluckily for us, there wasn't much wind, but we can hardly fault the host for that.
The Portimao coast is absolutely stunning, though

José est très sympathique, maitrise son sujet et dégage la passion de la navigation. Il parle bien français ce qui est un atout non négligeable. Skypper averti il n’hésite pas à partager des anecdotes, initier à la navigation et à s’adapter à la demande pour les visites. Les côtes de l’algarve sont superbes et il ne faut pas hésiter à aller les voir depuis un bateau. Je recommande pour quelques heures de détente au large.

I wanted to give honest feedback as I think the experience has potential but needs a lot of improvement to make it a worthwhile one. Two major issues: José was an hour late and hard to get in touch with despite me sending multiple messages through the app and then finally I called him, he said he had got the time wrong. We had to sit in a petrol garage for an hour. The trip itself was relatively pleasant, José had brought his friend on to assist but on a small boat it meant that we didn't have a ton of space, and the interior of the boat was quite messy. The WC hard to get to. both José and Joseph were chatty though José didn't guide or storytell and left it to us to request that we wanted to stop at coves and deserted beaches to paddle board. We were expecting him to tell us about the coastline and choose suitable coves for us, as he is the expert and host. He didn't. We only stopped at one small beach and that was beautiful but in three hours we expected to hop to a few different locations. We spent a lot of time trying to use the sails of the sail boat but it just wasn't windy enough so we ended up floating about a lot and not getting too far. To end the trip, the propeller broke as we were going back towards land and that meant we were stuck on the boat as they guided the boat with sails slowly but it meant we lost some of our final night holiday delaying our plans. I know the propeller issue was not deliberate but for a trip costing us each £66 we were really disappointed that it didn't run smoothly. We also felt that José could have given us much more guidance and variety on which beaches and coves and caves we were going to visit. Very underwhelming just stopping at one and then moving back to the bay, then being caught for an hour whilst the boat propeller failed us. All in all, José and Joseph were pleasant enough company but we are customers and not your friends and we expect a professional standard. I am sure José understand that is the expectations of most people paying that kind of money for a boat trip, it has to be of a certain standard. No hard feelings but hope this helps improves his Airbnb hosting experience.

Jose was amazing host! His boat is excellent and we spent the afternoon paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing off of the Portomao coast. The conversation and company truly made our southern Portugal trip and we would highly recommend the experience- we’ll definitely be back.
