Uncover the three underground levels of the Basilica of San Clemente, a 12th century church- home to breathtaking mosaics and frescoes dating back to the 4th century. Its deepest level reveals homes as old as the 1st century BC that would have been on street level.
Our tour proceeds to the Roman houses under the Basilica dei Santissimi Giovanni and Paolo. Here, a stones’ throw from the Colosseum, you will discover an enchanting medieval piazza far from the crowds of tourists. You will admire the church with its stunning frescoes and wander the roads, exploring the homes of Imperial Rome. WE RECOMMEND you to be on time, to respect the others in the group and mostly because we have skip the line tickets with access to the Museums at a specific time.

What a great experience! Denis was so knowledgeable about everything! My brother and I asked tons of questions and he could answer all of them! I would not have been able to find these entrances on my own, or known what I was looking at without Denis. I really enjoyed this experience.

Alessandro led our tour and it was incredible! There is no way I could have done this on my own. Alessandro’s knowledge was superb and we went to places I would never have known to go, and I’ve lived in Rome 6 years!!!! This tour is a must if you want go deeper into the history of Rome!

Alessandro was the guide and he was amazing - such a wealth of information and insights into the many layers of history. Being an archaeologist he was particularly suited to the tour topic. The tour of the hidden underground remains of churches, pagan spaces, and ancient Roman homes was deeply fascinating, and it was wonderful to visit these lesser known mysteries! I found it a very interesting and valuable experience - thanks Alessandro!
