We will stroll through the historic center of Cape Town, which was once a replenishment station under the Dutch East India Company—VOC—and later became a colony that developed into the vibrant city we see today. We will visit the landmarks and taste the best of the Cape Malay tradition koeksisters, samosas, chilli bites and chocolate while drinking typical chai tea. You will learn about the unique history, architecture, and culture of Cape Town and South Africa. The walk will end on bustling Greenmarket Square, where a big market and old buildings dominate the scene.

Wear good walking shoes. Dress casually and comfortably, wearing layers of clothes to adjust to any weather conditions.

We'll meet at the Castle of Good Hope—the oldest surviving building in South Africa. We'll walk through the city and see the following highlights: City Hall and the Grand Parade; the Groote Kerk—the oldest church in South Africa; Jan Smuts statues and St. George’s Cathedral; the Houses of Parliament; Company's Garden; Bo Kaap—formerly known as the Malay Quarter and one of the oldest residential areas in Cape Town; and Greenmarket Square.

The historical walking tour of Cape Town was very special and unique. I did the walk with Melania's husband. His knowledge and insight into the history of Cape Town brought the city to life. We toured areas of the city you would not normally see. For me, the walking tour was well worth it and I recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about the almost 400 years of history of this beautiful city.

We had our tour with Florian, Melania’s husband. His deep knowledge of Cape Town history and culture made the tour of the city so much more enjoyable and interesting. We loved the snacks he got while walking around the Bo Kaap neighborhood and we enjoyed lunch where he recommended, the Eastern Food bazaar. We would recommend this tour to anybody who comes to Cape Town for the first time.
