體驗簡介
The 60 minutes will be a deep dive into applications of machine learning in robotics. Specifically, we will explore bots for games, creating a few of our own using a number of different techniques. These bots are given only the game screen and controls, but our final bot will attain human-level gameplay. In this lesson, we use Python, but no coding experience is needed. Our lesson consists of three parts:
First, we build a baseline mode to compare against: we create a bot that acts randomly. Second, we build two bots--one using tabular q-learning and another using deep q-learning--to rival our original creations. Third, we throw our bots into a match, competing against one another until one player comes out on top. To spice it up, we will enter the match as well, making the winner either a human or artificial intelligence.
At this point, you will have access to private, customized materials and tools to learn more--whether you wish to improve the bot's performance, publish the bot, or build bots for new games entirely.
Other things to note
Great for all coding levels: popular with teens, engineers, and businesspeople. Upon request, happy to adjust dates, times, location, or group size. I also host "Build a Virtual Reality Game" abnb.me/NHfmGJ5viO and "Build a Dog Filter" abnb.me/GFEpWpfUlO.

Alvin’s class was fascinating. I’m a psychologist interested in artificial intelligence and the simulation of intentionality. Alvin showed us how to program an agent that would learn to play a game and get better at it, in probably less than a hundred lines of code. (Of course the code for the game itself was already written). This demonstration was technically quite interesting in itself, intriguing in its philosophical implications, and gave a sense of some of the issues and potentials of machine learning, all in an introductory and accessible way.
Alvin was a good teacher, friendly, patient, flexible, funny, and kind. One of our participants was a 14 year old boy, and Alvin made him feel totally comfortable and an equal member of the group.
Alvin also discussed his work at Berkeley in self driving cars, and at Facebook on VR and AR, and so we also got insight into where the AI field is going and how quickly. All in all, a tremendous experience!

This was a super fun and engaging experience with a high density of insight and learning. Alvin's style was very personal and in 1 hour, we were able to build the AI game bot following easy to understand steps and seeing the bot's intelligence increase by the minute. Alvin was also very generous at sharing his experience and view on AI, ML, and provided numerous resources for additional adventure. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who's interested in learning about ML and AI in a hands on and engaging way. I would definitely take on future learning experiences with Alvin again.

Have you ever been super impressed with a teacher or professor - the way they make learning fun - well that perfectly describes Alvin. He is a serious AI researcher but he's totally down-to-earth and has the patience of a Saint. We are Airbnb are very lucky to have him offer this experience!

Alvin gave me an amazing rundown of both the theory and application of A.I., using python
It felt like jumping right into a pool, and that’s the type of accelerated learning that I LOVED: by myself, I would have taken the rest of the day, but being able to have someone there break down the theory was immensely helpful.
The WiFi in the coffee shop was slow to download the s/w packages, so I used his computer (students should download and ready their computer beforehand), but he gave me the files afterward.
This was a great session, I’ll be in touch with Alvin definitely. He’s an enthusiastic and positive teacher, I was humbled at his generosity.
Having familiarity with elements of python and computer science is definitely a plus, so I can see where people might think it’s a lot (perhaps another session about 30 min extra?), but I enjoyed the quick accelerated program with rapid Q+A

A great experience, Alvin enthusiastically introduced me to “AI/MC”. This was done by using a bot that learned how to play a game. Alvin patiently explained the concepts we were coding (on a laptop he provided) – so, we coded the concept of ‘learning’ into a data structure and logic to drive the learning. We explored the math involved – which if I’m honest I’m still getting to grips with! However, Alvin regularly checks for understanding and will revisit a concept with additional examples to get you ‘over the hump’. The experience is mostly ‘doing stuff’ which I preferred. The venue was a pleasant downtown Berkeley café where there were students working on assignments in groups and others tutoring or being tutored – added to the learning experience I thought. At the end Alvin setup my own laptop with the tools needed to carry on my own. In short, a great introduction to the subject from a guy that really knows his stuff and wants you to learn. I can recommend. Thanks Alvin!
