體驗簡介
We will walk through the desolated streets of Doel. I will tell you different story's on the basis of some key elements - or what's left of them. I will point out the houses i lived in, and the houses where people still live and their stories. I will try to give you an overview of the history of the area an the port of Antwerp, and what is going on at this moment. You will see a lot of street art. We will not enter the empty houses, they are sealed off and tresspassing is prohibited.
Other things to note
we have to climb some stairs, so if there are disabled, elderly people or prams let me know, so i can adjust my route.
Depending on what day of the week you are coming, there are places to drink/eat.

Born in 1980 in the hamlet Saftingen, 2 km away from the city of Doel but an important part of it, I experienced the loss of this town during the years. Around 1998, when the government (again) decided to erase this town, i got involved in this story and became active in the battle for preserving Doel, the surrounding hamlets and farmland. I witnessed the community being torn apart, people being forced to sell their property to the governement. More and more i started to study the history of the port of Antwerp, in an attempt to understand why they want to own this area so bad.

I really enjoyed learning more about local history on the walking tour of Doel. Kevin was very passionate and highly knowledgeable about the village’s past, present and future and was fluent in English. My friend and I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend the trip to anyone who is looking for a nice walk in fresh air, beautiful countryside, and learning about the fascinating story of Doel.
