We will visit places that do not appear in the tourist guides, like the Guanche mummies and i will explain how the first residents of Tenerife lived, i will also speak about the defeat of Horatio Nelson in Tenerife and the cannon " El tigre" that left him one-armed. After the visit we will have lunch local food in a restaurant in la laguna . Tenerife is more than sun and beach, I will show it to you.

I work as a tourist guide in Tenerife, I love to show tourists the historical part of the island its castles and museums, now I want to share my knowledge with you, because many visitors leave the island ignoring that Tenerife is not only beach and sun, but also has remarkable cultural patrimony .

We had a wonderful Tenerife experience as Gustavo shared his passion and knowledge of the Island’s history. His selective visits at the museums told the story quickly while the chats while walking between museums covered current information about the people and their lifestyle, how we are different and yet have much in common. The modern tram ride to the local lunch was a bit long but the local experience was good. We met as strangers but parted as friends.

While Gustavo is a nice enough guy, his tour was not great. If you have an interest in military history and Nelson, you’ll probably want to visit the military museum, which you can do yourself for free. Beyond that the mummies are interesting but Gustavo didn’t share any more insight than you’d get at the museum. Lunch is a long way away and was sadly lacking the promised alcohol, which might have made it more palatable. All in all, a bit of a disappointment.

Gustavo was a very friendly and enthusiastic host. It was nice to explore the museum and the plaza with him as a guide, and we enjoyed trying out new foods at the restaurant for lunch. The downside for us was that we'd already spent a few days in La Laguna, and an afternoon in Santa Cruz already, so the tour didn't show us very much that was new, outside of the museum. If you have an interest in learning about the history of Tenerife, and want a guide for your first day in Santa Cruz, this tour might be worth checking out, but in hindsight, it perhaps wasn't the best choice for us.

Gustavo is great and was a pleasure to explore with for the experience. Expect to learn a lot about Tenerife's history. My favorite part was the meal, as we were able to experience the food like a local. The food choices were delicious. I recommend to anyone wanting to learn the history of Tenerife in a 3 hour slot...a great way to experience the city.
