We meet outside of Next Adventure at the trip time, where I will drive people to the Clackamas river, or you can meet us 45 minutes past the start of the trip time at Promontory Park near Estacada. On the Clackamas River we will be both rafting the exciting Class III Upper Clackamas as well as paddle-boarding or kayaking along the calm waters of Clackamas Lake. During the Stand-up Paddle Boarding, I will offer some instruction for beginners. We will then have a SUP yoga class with Sarah Starnes. Following this, people are generally in a much more meditative state. We like to recognize that this is a rare opportunity for silence, stillness and reflection in a mindset that is often difficult to find while we are in an incredible place. You have the ability to break off from the group if you would like to explore that, and there is a lot of space to roam. Rafting is in connection with Oregon River Outfitters, though I (Eric) will be your guide during this part of the trip. Rafting generally coincides with working with the group, socializing, excitement and moving into a more flowing state of mind. After 2-3 hours on the water (including one hour of yoga) we wrap up our trip. We return to Next Adventure in Inner SE Portland. Rafting always begins at 1:30 pm. So trips in which we leave in the morning, we do the SUP portion first. Trips leaving at noon feature rafting first.
Working in the field of Wilderness Therapy helped me to realize the vital role that connection with nature plays in our well being. I began guiding as a summer time raft guide living out of my tent during college. I now have an M.A. in Ecopsychology, and have encountered a variety of nature based experiences and practices. Along with the design of the experience, I offer other ways in which people can create a deeper experience during their (relatively) brief stint in this magical valley.
We offer a variety of snacks for the trip, including fresh seasonal fruits, chips and dips. Please let us know any food…
We provide drinks and on colder days fire up the stove for tea and coffee. Please let us know if you have any requests,…
You're welcome to ride in the Honda Odyssey to save some gas and some coin. You can't call an Uber from where we go as there…
We bring shells for the river and wetsuits for rafting, as well as all standard first aid equipment. We also carry things…
The Clackamas River Valley is the back door to Mt. Hood National Forest. It is a little over an hour away from downtown Portland, yet there is still a feeling of peace and plenty of beauty. This is the river I have run in my kayak and camped on far more than any other in the area because of the proximity and the level of fun. It's amazing that a place like this is so close to a city the size of Portland.
最多可供7位年滿18歲的旅人參加。 Please contact me regarding serious health issues, allergies (especially to bees) and food requirements. Please at least be comfortable in the water as well, though your swimming ability does not have to be strong.
Dry clothes, towels and wet gear (swimsuits OK). We will provide wet suits and splash gear. The water is much colder than the air, but don't worry, we've got you covered.
Our experiences don't require any previous experience in nature or with these activities. We aim to take care of everything so you can let your mind go and allow for the rhythm of nature to sink in.
