Unless other arrangements have been made, you will be met in Sancerre where you will enjoy your first visit to a local wine-maker and learn about the history of wine-making in the region and the art of making world class Sauvignon blanc wines. You will also take a historical walking tour of this former Huguenot bastion which also boasts great views over the famous Loire river. From Sancerre you will be taken to visit the colourful street market in nearby Cosne-sur-Loire (Wed & Sun only) as well as a nearby goat farm to sample the excellent crottin de Chavignol. Lunch is in a typical local bistro where you can enjoy a selection of the local specialities such as warm goats' cheese served on toasts with a bed of fresh lettuce and diced bacon. We will also make a stop to admire the 12C Church and beautiful riverside town of la Charite-sur-Loire. This afternoon you will be taken to another mecca for all wine-lovers, Pouilly-sur-Loire, where a visit to a local winery will introduce you to an increasingly rare wine made from the Chasselas varietal. You will also enjoy a visit to a producer of an little-known appellation, Coteaux du Giennois, which produces super wines at fantastic prices!

With prior notice we are happy to quote & pick up guests in 50 km radius around Sancerre including the Puisaye. Guests coming from Paris can be met at the train station of Cosne-sur-Loire.

Local goat farm - you will be able to sample some of the famous "crotin de Chavignon" washed down with a glass of Sancerre wine!

If you're visiting Sancerre, you must schedule with Nicholas. He took us to places we would have never found on our own. He has a deep knowledge of the region, it's wines and winemakers. Nicholas had a warm, engaging personality that made it very easy to spend the day with him learning about the region, wine, and any other questions we had about French education, politics and traditions. We visited both large and small wineries, including a beautiful Chateau where they welcomed us warmly, an amazing chevrière where we saw hours old baby goats and tasted delicious crottin de Chavignol all while sampling both organic and non-organic Sancerre and Pouilley Fume wines. Not only did we sample, but we were able to talk and learn from each wine maker we visited. It was the best day of our trip, despite an all day rain that never dampened Nicholas's enthusiasm for showing us the best of Sancerre and Pouilley Fume.

Our group had a wonderful, special day with Nicholas. We learned so much about the region, local history and, of course, wine! We loved Nicholas’ interesting conversation as we drove through numerous beautiful towns and sampled delicious wines of the Sancerre. We also enjoyed a lovely lunch and visited a chevrière.
