體驗簡介
Learn to whip ‘n’ tongue graft apple trees.
Apples don’t come true from seed – in other words, planting a pip will result in an apple tree but only a new ‘wilding’ variety. To create a new tree of the same variety (eg Rosemary Russett) a scion (a cutting of new growth) needs to be attached to a rootstock. The process is called ‘whip’ n tongue grafting.
Learn to:
1. Prepare rootstock and scion
2. cut slits in rootstock and scion, and interlink
3. tape together
4. wax exposed areas
Practise on surplus material.
Graft two new trees and take them home. (Scions from different cultivars / varieties will be available.)
Other things to note
Great walking from the door in the Peak District National Park. You are welcome to leave your car before/after.

I have been growing fruit for 15 years and my passion is apples. I have developed an orchard of over 50 varieties of apples, pears and plums (aiming for 100!). Growing them in many different forms: step-overs, espaliers, cordons, ballerinas and standards. I graft all my own trees, and have experimented with apple crossing (trying to create a new variety). I am in the Northern Fruit Group.
I have been running tours at Farlands for 5 years, but only recently on Airbnb.

Our smallholding covers two acres and includes woodland, a large veg garden, orchard and several paddocks. In addition, there are three cordon lines of fruit trees and two nursery beds with fruit trees.
