A history tour of Soweto where political Icons lived during Apartheid fighting against the regime. By walking you will get an idea of the everyday life in the townships, young talents and the Morden culture.
Starting at the Hector Pietersen Museum, we will talk first about the Soweto uprising that transpired in 1976, which was one the turning point of apartheid. I will then introduce you to the famous house of Nelson Mandela in Vilakazi Street, built in 1945 where he lived until he was imprisoned for 27 years. We will then have a conversation about Arch bishop Desmond Tutu in the famous street in Vilakazi Street. Continuing through Orlando East the first formal settlement of Soweto & Orlando Stadium, Soweto football giants, the Orlando Pirate and making local by riding a minibus taxi to our last stop at the Orlando Towers.
We share many personal stories about our family's generations, how apartheid had an impact in each and everyone of us, and how Soweto has changed today.

Regarding safety, people in Soweto are already used to tours and mostly appreciate foreigners coming to experience their community.

We will go to some historical sites in Orlando East that are most of the times excluded in other tours, or we grab lunch with one of the community leaders in Orlando West in his home. This will give you a broader picture of Sowetan history than other tours.
Nice afternoon with Rambo in Soweto! Although we would have hoped for a program with a bit more depth and off the beaten touristy track ( seeing a matchbox house from inside, meeting locals. ...) we enjoyed our time and Rambo was a very friendly guide!
