The experience begins downtown Ponta do Sol, near the beach and supermarket where you can buy your last snacks and drinks for the journey. The first hour we will go upstream Ponta do Sol river, that will take us to a "levada" walk, where we will find a hidden waterfall. In the second hour we go up the mountain to do the sheperd's tour and be delighted with wonderful landscapes, wildlife and pure Nature. The third hour will be spent on preparing traditional food and drinks for a gastronomic experience, in a old sheperds shelter. The last 3 hours of the tour will be spent mostly in the Laurisilva endemic forest, in the north side of the island, which will take you to to the heart of the island and it's origins. For the end of this experience, I will take you back to the south coast for an amazing sunset.
Other things to note
Be prepared for adventure and some adrenaline. I'm going to be telling some stories about these landscapes and ecological value, the way older generations built these roads and water channels.

I'm Luis and I was born and raised in Ponta do Sol, Madeira. Since I was a child I used to go to the local mountains of Ponta do Sol with my father to watch for the cows we have there, so I know these mountains as the palm of my hands. I've been driving this Polaris Crew 4x4 since 2016 doing guided touristic tours in Lisbon and Madeira island more recently. Driving is a passion for me, as I also am a co-pilot of my brother in rallies in Madeira, so I guess that makes me a very experienced and careful driver, always looking for my passengers safety and confort.

We will be in some restricted areas where only shepards have access, like I do. We will see where most of the spring water comes from that suply local agriculture and domestic use. We will also have oportunity to experience a bit of the way locals do banana farming, like I also do.

BEST EXPERIENCE IN MADEIRA! We had an absolute amazing day with Luis! Even though we were already on the island for 2 weeks, we discovered completely new places with beautiful nature. He's a super entertaining guy with a lot of exciting stories! He also prepared a delicious vegetarian BBQ for us and we got to taste delicious fruits from around Madeira. A fantastic experience from beginning to end. Luis is a great driver and very knowledgeable of the area. The cooking experience in the forest was a fantastic experience. Luis was happy to get wet in a waterfall to help us look for an endemic bird. Totally worth it.

This was the most incredible tour of Madeira! We saw mountains, forests, waterfalls, ancient ruins & so much more. Luis is an incredible, knowledgeable host and an amazing chef to boot - the local garlic salt espetada lunch was better than many what I've had in many restaurants here. Luis shares his deep local experience of the Ponta Do Sol area on this tour and you seriously can't beat the views (the pictures in the description don't compare). I've been on another off-roading experience and this one was way better - it's definitely worth heading over to ponta do sol for a day you'll never forget!

It is a beautiful thing to experience the efforts of someone who has perfected their craft. We booked this on a whim and are still staggered by the experience. Honestly, the barbecue alone was worth the price, and that's saying something coming from a couple who rarely pays more than 10 Euro for any meal. Luis has literally thought of everything. Bring warm clothes and hiking shoes and a big appetite. And be prepared to see way, way more than is advertised. Usually, promoters overstate what they are offering, and one leaves feeling a little cheated. We felt that we had our money's worth at 3 hours in... to an 8 hour adventure. And adventure is the key word here. If you've read this far, just book it. Stop overthinking, and book now!
