Discover the treasures of the Left Bank of Paris, the city's Latin Quarter & St Germain-des-Près. The tour will focus on the city's Roman roots & Latin heritage.
This private tour will take you to visit some of the oldest parts of the city, settled in Gallo-Roman times. We will encounter vestiges of the Roman era - thermal baths & an arena where gladiators combated.
In the Middle Ages, most of the land on the Left Bank belonged to religious houses such as St Germain-des-Près (whose church is the oldest in the city). These religious foundations created universities (such as the Sorbonne), giving rise to the name "Latin Quarter" as the language spoken by the students & clerics.
In the 18th Century the area became a hotbed of Revolutionary insurgents, we will see where the Revolutionaries gathered & plotted their insurrections. We will even visit the courtyard where the first guillotine was constructed.
We will visit a Renaissance Italian-style garden, as well as the Pantheon and the final resting place of the city's patron saint - who organised the first prayer marathon to save Paris from the Huns.

Stroll with me on my unique Paris tours & discover the hidden Paris. I have lived in this beautiful city for over 30 years and will show you the best places to eat, shop, visit.
I am a trained historian & you will learn about the city's history through my commented walks. All of my tours are researched, documented & scripted to ensure accuracy & interest.
I offer only small group tours - maximum of 8 people - but generally smaller! This allows for more interaction - questions, exchanges, comments.

My favourite location is a unique baroque church that has the largest rood screen in France. You probably don't know what this is - it is a monumental stone screen intricately carved by a master artisan in 1530. Sculpted in the flamboyant Gothic style, it is 9m wide (30ft) & serves to separate the choir from the nave.
The other "jewel" of this particular church is a lavishly gilded chapel from 1609 containing the tomb of St Genevieve.

Ellen was very informative & invited my questions. She was easy to communicate with & personalized the tour to my interests. She also went out of her way to point me in the right direction to the apartment, as the appropriate metro was not running & there were no taxis to be had.

Although I've been to Paris many times and even stayed in the Latin Quarter, I had not visited most of the places Ellen took us, nor did I know all of the history she related. She has an in-depth knowledge of the area. In addition to her expertise, Ellen was caring and made sure I was feeling up to the trek (I have some health issues). Of all the tours I've done in Paris, I would place this one at the top. We covered a great deal of ground both literally and figuratively. I highly recommend the experience.

I took two experience with Ellen, and I highly recommend both. This one, on the Latin Quarter was amazing. Ellen used her tablet to bring to life key sites that we visited that dated from Roman times to later periods in Paris' history include medieval times - places include the Saint Germain of Prés Church, the Sorbonne, the Roman Baths, the Luxembourg Garden, amongst other unique gems. The details, accuracy, and the location she choose were excellent. Please note her tour is for the history buffs who enjoy details and as much information as possible, which was perfect for me. She is a very kind, very knowledgeable person who added the extra time to give me such a memorable experience by answering questions, giving time and suggestions on ideal spots to take photographs and to slightly deviate from the tour if there are things that caught our eye. I was extremely fortunate to take the tour with her alone and she made it extra special by tailoring it to my own interest as well.
Thank you again for the memorable experience Ellen.
To those history buffs reading the review, dont hesitate! You will have an awesome time!

Ellen's tour was a highlight of our trip. Although we have visited Paris numerous times this walking tour was informative and enjoyable covering places with which we were familiar and places new to us. We both highly recommend the experience.
