We meet at the starting point El Pilar at 1300 mt. The excursion takes in 3 different types of landscapes. First we start to walk up the volcanic spine of La Palma to a place called Hoyo Negro at around 1850 mt, takes about 90 minutes. there you have spectacular views over all the island and can even see Tenerife and La Gomera, its like a moonscape and often there is a sea of clouds to the east while the west is cloudless. Then we retrace our steps about 15 minutes and plunge down a steep ravine, ¨Barranco¨on a narrow track typical of the island, walking over lava flows, another 90 minutes. this is followed by a gentle return through a Canary pine forest, 70 minutes approximately. All the times are average but there is always time to rest, ask questions and take photos, it's not a race and there is no time pressure . Most of the walk is in the shade The walk finishes in a beauty spot where BBQ is permitted and there waiting is the food and drink for a relaxing time talking and reflecting on the experience of the day. Then it's home and hopefully ready for another experience on this beautiful, varied and unspoiled island. The excursion is for closed groups with a maximum of 6.
I live on the Island and spend my time in the mountains discovering new routes and information. Most of my life I have been a guide in Spain, the Alps and Venezuela. My aim is to provide the conditions so that my guests, you, can get the most out of what the island has to offer in the most efficient and enjoyable way. The excursion is moderately challenging physically and I can use my local knowledge to enrich the experience of what you are seeing and finish it all off with a relaxing BBQ in a special place.
