體驗簡介

On this tour, we understand the transformation Medellin has experienced through the eyes of the farmers or peasants: the ones that made the city grow by migrating from all over the country because of forced displacement or looking for new opportunities. We start by taking the tram to visit La Placita de Florez one of the oldest farmers markets in town.

Later, we will go to Comuna 8, specifically to a neighborhood called El Faro (The Lighthouse) named like this because of its stunning view over the valley and "imaginary" because the city says it doesn't belong to Medellín. Here we take a tour with a local guide that works on the continuous development of the community, supporting art and social projects. We will learn how they created the neighborhood by themselves and how has been the process of integration with the city. The best thing about this is that by doing this tour you're contributing to these projects.

After having a walk through the colorful alleys of El Faro we enter a beautiful forest and in 25 minutes we reach the peak of the Cerro Pan de Azucar, one of the most emblematic mountains and the highest peak of the city to enjoy the best view you can have in Medellín.
Other things to note
We will walk through a good amount of stairs so I recommend to wear sport shoes. This tour is not suited for people with physical disabilities.

After traveling for a while I realized the potential my city had. I started to study a lot and have been working as a tour guide for over a year now with more than 3 companies and now I'm starting my own called Nomad. I just finished a Technology on tourism guidance to become a professional on the field and I have assisted to 3 boot camps to learn how to develop touristic experiences. I'm convinced that sustainable tourism can make Colombia a better place. I know I can help bring progress to communities I visit with my guests and that benefit can be for both sides.

體驗地點

La Placita de Florez, a historic farmers market.

El Faro: mostly inhabited by farmers from all over Antioquia and some other parts of the country. Many of them keep working on the field, so the contrast of being through coffee and corn fields while having an incredible view of the city is just the perfect way to understand the contrasts, configuration and reality of the city.

Cerro Pan de azucar: the highest mountain of Medellín.

I learned a lot on this tour and had a great time connecting with Andrés. I was able to visit a part of the city that I never would have been able to visit on my own.

This tour is a must for anyone wanting an off-the-beaten-path experience in the hills high above the City of Medellin. We toured with Andres' partner, Gabriel, who led us through his own neighborhood of El Faro, where he and another local resident Oscar guided us through the winding streets, steps and paths of the town and shared with us their community's story. We then continued on a beautiful walk/hike up to an incredible viewpoint where we could see the entire City below us. This was an amazing experience that showed us another side of the city that most tourists will sadly miss out on. Don't miss this unique opportunity to see the challenges and the achievements of the people of El Faro. Recommend good walking shoes, water, and sunscreen.

Gabriel is a great guide, very relaxed and he showed us different sides of Medellin. The visit to his part of of tbe city was interesting and confronting and it makes you realize how good and easy we live in the modern world. Oscar, a partner in the tour tells you a lot about the comuna 8 and it’s surrounding nature. Maybe time wise they can make the tour 5 hours instead of 4.

Book this experience!!!! Gabriel was the host on the day of my trip, and we met up with Oscar when we arrived in El Faro. Our time began with a trip to the market and a few snacks. We eventually found our way to Comuna 8 and the neighborhood of El Faro. Along the way, we learned about the history of the area and its residents. It's extremely interesting, and both Gabriel and Oscar were passionate when talking about the part of the city where they live. The other guest and I were the only tourists there, and locals were very friendly. This sort of experience is what traveling is all about: meeting local people, learning their stories, and leaving with a better understanding of the and culture and environment. This was the highlight of my 5 days in Medellín.

There are a million tours of Comuna 13 in Medellín, many of which appear to be fine as far as traipsing through a thoroughly touristed area. We visited on our own, having first read up on the history and spending hours at the Casa de la Memoria. We saw (and overheard) lots of tours. Nothing really special. Then there’s Andres and his tour of a totally different Comuna on the other side of the valley. Comuna 8 has seen few tourists and its residents have very real and special stories to tell. Andrés largely steps back and lets community leaders talk about what it means to build a Comuna outside the legal limits of the city. Their experiences are rich and tell more about Medellín than a hundred tour books. I’ll say no more because this is a tour you need to take. Andrés is super professional, smart, and conscientious. His English is solid and he knows his city.
