We meet up in front of my residence in Jabal Al-Weibdeh on a Thursday or Friday at the indicated time, and we head down to city center...We embark on an optional local lunch where you can have the opportunity to try our famous traditional meal “Mansaf” or one of the many available other delicious Arabic dishes! If you have a sweet tooth, we can follow the meal by mouthwatering traditional desserts such as Knafe or Halawet al jibn. Filled with yummies, we then head to the Roman amphitheater that can fit up to 6000 spectators! We then stretch our legs and climb up to the famous Roman/Islamic citadel (Please note entrance fees to these sites are not included: 2 JDs for the amphitheater and 3 JDs for the citadel, unless you have purchased the Jordan Pass ahead of time which will grant you free entry). Finally, we end the tour by visiting some bustling markets that tourists rarely know about: The oldest market in Amman (Bukharia market), fruit and vegetable markets and tailors market. On the way back, we take cute hidden stairs that take us back to Weibdeh, we skim through the trendy neighborhood until we get back to our starting point. Expected distance to cover is 15 kms, time required is around 4 hours.
I am a local Jordanian, and I love to walk around the city...I have walked up and down city center streets so many times that I developed lovely paths to walk and explore the city on foot. Check out the amphitheater, citadel, and traditional markets, all while trying out delicious typical Jordanian food along the way. I will give you a 4-hour walk that will truly make you fall in love with this ancient city!
Best Habiba Knafeh in town, or the less traditional delicious Halawet Al Jibn, you choose!
We will visit Jabal Al-Weibdeh, downtown, traditional restaurants, oldest house in Amman (The duke house), oldest Market in downtown (Bukharia), traditional fruit and vegetable markets, tailors market, Roman amphitheater, and the iconic citadel. Trip can be tailored to group interests, highly customizable.
You need to be in good shape...This is a 3-4 hour walk , expect to walk about 12-15 kms and to climb a decent amount of stairs. Ladies, try to avoid shorts and revealing clothes, area of tour is traditional and thus conservative.
Old Amman on foot like never before!
