Developing a picture in a darkroom is a timeless experience that everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. There is a feeling you get when you first see an image appear on a once blank sheet of photo paper that is so magical.
In this workshop go beyond the digital world and step back in time to where the origins of photography began. Discover a new skill as I introduce you to the photographic process and participate in making an actual black and white photograph from images stored in your IPhone or smartphone.
I will guide you step by step in my darkroom how to hand print like a master photographer. Watch your image come to life right before your very eyes. Take back apart of Rome that defines your experience, a memory to last a lifetime.

Bring along your Iphone or smart phone. No prior photo expereince necessary. I encourage all levels of photography enthusiats to come and explore. You can print more images for an additional fee.

I relocated to Rome to pursue my career as a freelance photographer. I earned a BFA in Photography in New York City, where I mastered my skills in black and white printing for over 30 years. I continue to shoot in film and have dedicated myself to the origins of the photographic process. I exhibit my silver gelatin prints in galleries in New York, Los Angeles and abroad. As a custodian to analog techniques, my passion is to preserve old world traditions allowing me to cultivate this darkroom experience with you.

My experience with Laura changed the way I take pictures on vacation. I think we tend to forget about black and white photography because we use so many filters, but Laura shows you how looking at the shot as a black and white changes what you put in the frame and it works so well. I got so much more out of my pictures on my trip after this experience. Laura is excited to show of her city and extremely enthusiastic about black and white photography. I absolutely recommend this experience and I look forward to going on another one with Laura in NYC with her.

Laura’s enthusiasm, keen eye, and skill in communicating photography tips made this a terrific family Experience. Kids 16 & 19 enjoyed the walking-&-shooting, and developing. Great way to get your tourist photo “eye” in focus for Rome’s architecture, shadows, light, dark, day & night.

I love the concept of a photo walk using your phone, but having it set to black and white. It's quite a difference. And then to go back and make a print using old fashioned baths of fixer... this was surprisingly easy and speedy. It all adds up to a great way to spend a few hours doing something familiar but with a twist.
