We'll explore my favorite location in the Bay Area, Rodeo Beach, a wide sandy expanse that sits between Rodeo Lagoon and Rodeo Cove. This spot is ripe with natural fauna: shorebirds such as the double-crested cormorant, the elegant egret, and the threatened brown pelican.
Our journey will start in the cove at low tide. After seeing the pillow lava lining the bay, we will circle the lush lagoon, finding native plants and flowers along the way. We'll climb adjacent hills to see the waves of the Pacific Ocean crash over rock sculptures, and I'll share insights into the ancient geology that cradles the beach as well as life on the shoreline. Once Covid-19 subsides, we'll end with a locally sourced picnic on the beach!
Other things to note
Bring a water bottle, camera, hiking shoes, and perhaps binoculars to Rodeo Beach. I'll provide food for our picnic. Transportation is not included.

Rodeo Beach is located just northwest of the Golden Gate Bridge. Next to historic Fort Cronkhite, the area offers splendid views of the Pacific Ocean, wildflower displays in the surrounding hills, and a rich cove and beach. The area is preserved as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
We loved exploring Rodeo Beach with Leanne. She is such a talented educator and so knowledgeable about the plant and animal life in the bay. Leanne provided food that suited our dietary needs and we really enjoyed our picnic on the beach with her. This was our first AirBNB "experience" and we look forward to doing more!

Lovely afternoon discovering a part of the Bay Area I never knew existed! We had a nice and easy stroll finding local plants and wildlife, and the highlight was a gourmet picnic on the beach with fruits, juices, breads, cheeses, meats and additional snacks. Leanne was a great host!

This experience was the perfect balance of relaxing, interesting, educational and delicious! Rodeo Beach is beautiful, but what really made this special was the walk around the lagoon through tree-lined and covered paths Leanne took us on. She educated us on local plants and flowers as we went, and then we finished with a delicious picnic of cheeses, meats, fruits, and chocolate. Thank you, Leanne! We had a wonderful time with you!
