Experience a one-of-a-kind history tour through Harlem's public art, via a leisurely bike ride. We'll meet at a shop to rent bicycles (or bring your own) and tour through Harlem to see great sculptures of historic black figures, from Frederick Douglass to Harriet Tubman to Malcolm X to Duke Ellington. At each one, after a brief introduction, the statue will be "reanimated" with the audio playback of a key speech or writing, gradually filling out a tapestry of black history in America and in Harlem. We'll also have an exclusive visit to the Walls-Oritz Gallery, where my photography and video art was recently exhibited. We'll take a snack break at High Bridge Park, with its panoramic view of the north end of the city, and stroll past the picturesque Harlem Meer.
Fruit bar or granola bar.
Poncho if rainy.
