I am offering you a hands on, fun, taster session on how to spin wool on an old fashioned wheel, using locally sourced fleece. If the weather is good we can sit outside in my croft house garden surrounded by stunning scenery, just off the North Coast 500 route. When you arrive I will invite you to come and meet my small flock of friendly sheep where we can start the journey from sheep to jumper. There will be Tea, coffee and cake and an introductory chat with examples and questions answered. We will set up wheels and talk through how all the equipment works. Wool preparation is important and I will show you how to skirt a fleece and which parts of the fleece are the best for spinning. Spinning is a craft that takes time to learn but in my taster wool workshops we can delve into the basics of setting up a wheel, learning to card wool in preparationn and experience the first steps in producing yarn using a "lazy kate", or a "noddy noddy". Support and guidance will be on hand at all times, if needed. All abilities are welcome. I can teach up to 2 guests at a time.
Hello my name is Andi Neate and I have been spinning and working with wool for over 30yrs. For the last seven I have been living in the Falkland Islands running a 26'000 acre Merino sheep farm and working as a wool grader for 6000 sheep. Having been bought up in Wester Ross, I have now returned and set up the Prickly Fish Co, spinning, weaving dyeing woollen scarves from 100% merino and locally sourced wool., and painting ceramics.
I will supply tea, coffee and homemade biscuits, please let me know if you have special dietry needs?
The workshop will be run in my old croft house in Laide, depending on the weather we can sit and spin in the garden. I keep my small sheep flock in the field behind my cottage.
最多可供2位年滿14歲的旅人參加。父母也可以陪同兩歲以下的幼兒參加。 I have 3 collie dogs, so please let me know if you are not comfortable around dogs and I will keep them inside.
Please bring indoor shoes with you.
This experience will be held in my home and I have 3 collies, sheep and hens. Please let me know if you intend to bring a dog. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
