We will meet at Berlin Hbf at 9 am and drive by train to Dessau (1h38min). As soon as we arrive we begin in a royal park with a wide view back. Because the origins of the Bauhaus date back to the times of the Enlightenment. We continue our way to the master houses that the Bauhaus teachers had built for themselves. I will introduce you to the buildings but you will investigate the inside on your own as only official guides are allowed inside. Afterwards we walk a few steps to the Bauhaus itself, where again I show you around and you explore the inside by yourself. We will have a late lunch at the original Bauhaus mensa where we have time to exchange your impressions and thoughts. Then we will drive for some 20 min by urban rail or bus to a housing estate project of the Bauhaus and get a tour. You will have the chance to see an orginal terraced house as it was planned by Walter Gropius as part of the mass housing project. After this we will return to the trainstation and take a train back to Berlin where we arrive around 8 pm.
With my professional background in design and lifestyle my interest in architecture, design and history is essential and excites me. I'm not the one who's gonna pray down dates and names. Instead I want to share with you the visual culture, the historical context and the importance the bauhaus has still today. We celebrate its foundation 100 years ago. In times of great hopelessness after a devastating war, Walter Gropius and his fellows set a beginning. Thus the bauhaus is far more than design and architecture. It is courage to shape the future. Something we desperately need today too.
