Berlin was and is a center of German and European history. The city is like an open-air museum of the 20th century. I'll take you on a journey back in time to the most important moments of the city’s past. What did the death strip look like? Where was the last film footage of Hitler filmed? What was Potsdamer Platz like during the bustling 1920s' theater scene? What is the story about the ghost stations? You'll not only discover the historic showplaces, you'll also see fascinating film clips about the city's history on a tablet computer that I will give to you when we meet. This multimedia approach will turn our trip into an emotional and exciting experience.

I'm a historian and I've lived in Berlin for almost 20 years. The history of this city is my passion, as well as my business. Writing articles and books, organizing expositions, working as a location scout (and extra!) for historical movies, and guiding tours—that's my work. And I love the emotional power of films: that's why we'll do this experience with tablets and a lot of historical films.

We will begin at the Berlin Wall and end at Brandenburg Gate. I'll take you to see some of the most important historic sights in the city center, and also show you some hidden spots, such as one of the last guard towers from the GDR-times, the former ghost stations, a place where Berliners had fantastic parties in the Golden Twenties, and the office building of the Nazi minister Joseph Goebbels.

Arne is an amazing tour guide with an extensive knowledge of Berlin throughout various time periods! He pointed out interesting details, tourists overlook. His personal background and anecdotes made Berlin all the more interesting. We were lucky enough to have him all to ourselves, as we were the only tour participants that day! He customized the tour to our interests and even hung around with us after for a good meal and some beers! Very personable, highlight of our time in Berlin!! :)

Be ready to walk, jump on and off the subway and enjoy the sights. I liked that the tour involved short clips of what Berlin looked like in the past but I prefer to have my hands free and not have the stress of holding a somewhat large electronic that I am afraid of dropping or damaging.

Our tour with Arne was fantastic and I would whole heartedly recommend it as a great start to a stay in Berlin. Arne was great at communicating with us before our tour and even tailored it to some of our interests. The tour is 2.5 hours but it seemed to pass be in far less as Arne made the journey so interesting. We saw so many things we would never have found beacuse of Arne's wealth of knowledge. Arne answered all out questions and did not shy away from the more sensitive topics. It was fascinating to hear about the personal stories of the division between east and west. Being able to see photos from different time periods also brought the tour to life. As a first time visitor to Berlin this trip helped us to get our bearings a little for future days out, as we could spot all the landmarks we had learnt about. So again I would recommend this fantastic tour without a doubt.
