Step into a land that time forgot in the incredible Ancient Forest of Oxbow Regional Park. Towering trees, nesting bald eagles, moss covered logs and the silvery song of the Pacific Wren await you on this world class walk through a living landscape. Only 40 minutes from downtown Portland, the sound of the Sandy River will serenade us as we see, hear & feel the vibrancy of this rare and beautiful place. The wonder and awe of the "standing giants" abounds as you walk amongst trees that tower up to 300' tall, and have been holding steady for over 700 years. Prehistoric ferns create a sense that a dinosaur could step out at any moment! From the pygmy owl thats as small as a pencil, to the majestic elk that are almost as big as a horse, Oxbow is home to captivating wildlife that we will look and listen for along the way. After more than 10 years of guiding trips in this amazing forest, Im excited to share incredible stories of first hand encounters with wildlife, and how the landscape came to be. Winding trails follow the rivers edge, and lead deeper into the forest where the big trees await. Nothing compares to the ancient forest! I hope you will join me in this special place
I'm a life long naturalist and adventurer in the wonderful world of nature. Ive been leading and supporting all kinds of people to deepen their connection with nature for 20+ years in the Pacific Northwest. Most recently I worked as an outdoor guide and youth mentor for Metro Regional Government for 10 years . Prior to that I worked for groups like the Audubon Society of Portland, Wolftree, and Trackers Earth. My masters degree in ecology, culture and learning took me to the Amazon of Ecuador and Peru to live and learn with the Napo Runa people, where I met my wife Maria Elena. Lets go!
