We’ll explore our place in the Universe, with stars as our guide and the Bondi night sky as our canvas. Looking at stars, planets and constellations with our naked eyes and binoculars, we’ll share a meditative journey while connecting the dots with perspectives from neuroscience and astronomy. As a small group, our experience is designed to be interactive and easy to relate to for anyone curious about the mysteries of the Universe. About a third of our time together is a meditative walk along the Bondi /Tamarama Coastal walk, stopping at a higher vantage point for stargazing. The rest of the time, we could play with the following themes under the stars: *How stargazing could change your life* *How everything could be connected* *Stargazing as a lens for understanding humans across cultures* *Finding directions using different methods e.g. the Southern Cross* *Accessing our mind’s hidden powers* *Contrasting perspectives on horoscopes and astrology* *Where are the aliens?*
I wish to see a revival of the stargazing culture. So we humans will look up into the infinite at night again. As an astronomy guide, I've led sold out experiences at festivals in Sydney and at the world's largest dark sky reserve in New Zealand. Before that, my neuroscience research at Sydney/Harvard Medical School was featured in the Wall Street Journal, Scientific American, Nature and ‘Through the Wormhole’ narrated by Morgan Freeman. My goal is not to impress you with knowledge, because there is already an abundance of excellent resources on NASA, Youtube and Netflix. Rather it’s to share a live experience, so that you would continue your stargazing journey for years to come.
1. We'll meet across the road from Bondi Beach at the Astra building on 34 Campbell Parade. It's about 20 steps from a 333/380 bus stop. 2. We’ll do part of the coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama (approx. 10 minutes), stopping at a higher vantage point for a better view of the stars. Please note that approximately 50 steps up, and another 50 steps down are required.
A curious mindset
As stargazing is weather dependent, I will confirm the day before, and at 2pm on the day of, if the event needs to be cancelled / rescheduled due to clouds. In that case, there would be a 100% refund.
