You will be introduced to the fundamentals of on location and studio photography lighting techniques; whether photographing a portrait or a still life, you will learn how to manipulate light and mood to obtain the desired effect. First we will shoot in a studio setting in a historic building and former squat (Umbrella House), and then we will use our rooftop with the city as a backdrop to combine available and artificial light to create stunning portraits. You will also have a chance to learn about Umbrella House from one of its members and see its 820 sq foot intensive green roof. We will examine a range of lighting techniques and their effect, experimenting with umbrellas, diffusion screens, warming gels, off camera cords and other accessories.
As a professional wedding and commercial photographer for over 20 years, I have worked in the most important New York venues and photographed people in the most iconic NYC locations. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from the State University of NY, and the only time I enjoy more than when I make people look their best in a photo is when I share my knowledge with others.
