Staying in Cardiff, but longing to see more than city streets? Come and explore Garth Mountain with me. I’ll meet you at the local Railway Station and drive you to Gwaelod y Garth where we’ll start our walk. We’ll talk about the history, folklore and natural surroundings of this special piece of countryside on Cardiff’s doorstep. Its story is featured in the Hugh Grant film “The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain”. We’ll walk forest paths and moorland tracks on the Garth Mountain (Mynydd y Garth in Welsh) that rises above the village. There will be plenty of stops for photographs, and at the end of our walk you can drop into the Gwaelod y Garth Inn, our friendly village pub, to buy refreshments, if you want to.
I’ll provide bottled Welsh water and traditional Welsh Cakes during the walk.
Our route is flexible, to suit your mood and energy-level. We’ll start in the village, then it’s up through peaceful woodland, studded with signs of its mining heritage, to Mynydd y Garth. We can take a path to the summit, to find prehistoric burial mounds, a pillar with a story, and wonderful views. On the way back down, you can choose to continue on paths through the woods, or go through the village with its old miners’ cottages and pub.
最多可供4位年滿7歲的旅人參加。父母也可以陪同兩歲以下的幼兒參加。 If you’re bringing a very young child, infant or baby, you’ll need to have a sling or other sturdy baby-carrier to enjoy this experience.
Sturdy walking shoes/boots
The walk is suitable for children of 7 years+ (younger if carried). I can modify the route to suit you, but some of the walking is on steep paths. I’m very happy to answer questions before you book.
