I will meet you in Tacen parking lot early in the morning, before sunrise. Best way to come to a meeting point is with a car or a taxi because buses are not operating before 5 am in the summer time. Parking is possible at the parking area at the bridge over Sava. No need to bring your own food, though, as the Ledinek’s Inn at the top opens early and offers tasty traditional dishes and pastry. The ascent to the Šmarna Gora hill, 664 meters above sea level, takes less than an hour. If you’re normally fit, you’ll need approximately 40 minutes for the hike. The trail will take us almost directly over the roots. The trail is quite steep. The top of the hill offers spectacular sunrise and breathtaking views of the Kamniške Alpe and Julijske Alpe mountain ranges, the Ljubljana basin and the entire Dolenjska region with the mountain of Trdinov vrh on the border with Croatia. I will reveal some myths and tales about the beginnings of Šmarna gora during the hike and provide photos for your social media account.
I am a lover of nature and hiking always eager to teach the beauty of the hidden places of Šmarna gora and their stories. The top of the hill is accessible by 15 mostly relatively easy routes. I know that certain trails can feel more comfortable with a local guide to help navigate an unknown area. For the last 15 years, I live under Šmarna gora hill and I guided clients from all over the world. I'll be free and available to take you on the top of the hill, a place for great photography, spectacular views and breathtaking sunrise.
Each person will get one water.
hiking sticks on request and headlamp
Top of the Šmarna gora hill has two peaks. We will hike to the most popular one. The hilltop is occupied by a restaurant (the Ledinek Inn) and a Baroque church of the Mother of God, built in the first half of the 18th century. Another attraction sited on top of the hill is a famous wishing bell, believed to fulfil the wishes of those who ring it.
