Sofia is a great city with an ancient history, amazing new places that are worth visiting, and delicious culinary traditions. We will start off the tour by visiting the Russian Church, visit the garden behind the king's palace, and get lost in some small streets, learning about the culture na life of ordinary Bulgarian. After that, the focus of the tour will switch towards seeing different side of Sofia-the artsy and not so popular one. We will go to some of my personal favorite spots in Sofia (str. Angel Kunchev and str. Shishman). Then, we will stop at an open market to shop for some fresh local ingredients for cooking. Then, we will head to my home where we are going to prepare several famous Bulgarian dishes--banitza (phyllo with feta cheese); musaka (for the mean eaters) or mish-mash (for the vegetarians); shopska salad; and stuffed cabbage leaves with rice. At the end of our tour, I will help you get back to your place.
My name is Kalina and I am currently on a gap year. When I graduated from high school, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do after, so I decided to take the time and explore the world and my passions. I was teaching English for a few months, and after that volunteered in Africa and did some backpacking trips around Europe and Asia. Everywhere I go, I try to share a few fun facts about Bulgaria and bring traditional Bulgarian food. Even thought I plan to study abroad, I am really proud of my origin and want to share my culture with others, while learning about theirs. I love meeting with travelers from all around the world and believe that this is an amazing way to learn. I love traveling, learning new languages, painting, watching movies, nature, and wildlife. I will be more than happy to show you a unique side of my country.
We will visit the Russian church, and the castle and gardens of the ex-king (currently the national art gallery). After learning about Bulgaria's history, we will visit a few streets with local artists' shops, street art, and a lot of energy. After that, we will go to my house, where you will learn how to prepare the most popular Bulgarian dishes.
