I love talking and even more if it´s about my community, so I want to tell you everything about it! For doing that, we´ll share a drink in some quiet place where we can dialog about the roots of the relatively new LGBTIQ+ rights movement in Cuba as well as its current struggles (there are a few). Then, we´ll move to one of the most inclusive, diversity-friendly and special clubs we have now in Havana, where the LGBTIQ+ community meets next to a very mixed crowd of people. Before the show, we´ll go backstage to meet the drag queen performing that night. We´ll engage with her and discuss the challenges and joys of those involved in this artistic expression in the country. From there, it´s all about to relax and enjoy the show!
I´m a journalist and an LGBTIQ+ rights activist. I worked for two years as a community manager for the National Center for Sexual Education –the Cuban government institution leading these affairs in the country. Currently, I´m committed to the work that different projects are doing to promote sexual rights and the wellbeing of the queer community here. Thanks to Into Queer Havana, I have been able to meet wonderful people from all over the world that has expanded my vision about the multiple ways in which human beings build their sexual identities and that has been an inspiration for my work.
Two rounds of drinks
We´ll meet at 23th and L streets (Vedado), on the portal of Cine Yara, right under the “Yara” sign. From there we´ll go to a nearby club where the LGBTIQ+ community meets.
